FBI Alters Spanish MP's Picture, Calls Him Bin Laden

This is ridiculous. Is any wonder that 9-11 happened? Another reason for a new terror fighting agency. The FBI is clearly not up to the job.

in reference to:

"A Spanish politician has said he was shocked to find out the FBI had used his photo for a digitally-altered image showing how Osama Bin Laden might look. Gaspar Llamazares said he would no longer feel safe travelling to the US after his hair and parts of his face appeared on a most-wanted poster. He said the use of a real person for the mocked-up image was "shameless". The Spanish newspaper El Mundo said an FBI spokesman had admitted the agency had taken a picture from Google Images. ...The FBI claimed to have used "cutting edge" technology, but Mr Llamazares said it showed the "low level" of US intelligence services and could cause problems if he was wrongly identified as the Saudi. "Bin Laden's safety is not threatened by this but mine certainly is," he said, adding that he was considering taking legal action. El Mundo quoted FBI spokesman Ken Hoffman as saying a technician "was not satisfied" with the hair features offered by the FBI's software programme and instead used part of a photo of Mr Llamazares posted on the internet. "The technician had no idea whose image he had found and no dark motive for using it," he told the newspaper."

Security breach at JFK airport causes delays

This is or will turn out to be hyper-sensitivity in the wake of the near disaster on Christmas Day. It seems we go from ignoring problems to being hysterical. And leading the way is the media. This would not have been a story prior to last December.

in reference to:

"A security breach at New York's John F. Kennedy airport sparked delays Saturday, an American Airlines spokesman said. Airline spokesman Charlie Wilson said operation will only resume after the Transportation Security Administration and Port Authority officials have rescreened all the passengers in the terminal. "We are going to have delays of a couple hours," before flight operations are allowed to resume, he said. TSA said the breach occurred at about 3:30 p.m. when an individual entered the secure, "sterile," area in Terminal 8 through a nonpublic employee door used by the airlines. A first-hand account: JFK airport a sea of people "TSA is working closely with the Port Authority to find the individual," the statement said. "The terminal is being evacuated in order to rescreen all passengers to ensure the safety of the traveling public." Earlier this month, a man was charged with trespassing after allegedly triggering a security breach at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey."

Anger at US builds at Port-au-Prince Airport

This is starting to look a lot like Katrina. The military has to set up a perimeter from which helicopters and transport planes can land or drop off supplies and troops 24/7. We have seen many cases of husbands and fathers trying to knockdown walls to rescue their family members that have been buried alive. From this perimeter you can also set a command post from which the military/authorities can organize relief efforts.

in reference to:

"Anger built Saturday at Haiti's US-controlled main airport, where aid flights were still being turned away and poor coordination continued to hamper the relief effort four days on. "Let's take over the runway," shouted one voice. "We need to send a message to (US President Barack) Obama," cried another. Control remained in the hands of US forces, who face criticism for the continued disarray at the overwhelmed airfield. GA_googleFillSlot("news_story_instory");adsonar_placementId=1434709;adsonar_pid=651758;adsonar_ps=-1;adsonar_zw=250;adsonar_zh=225;adsonar_jv='ads.adsonar.com'; Dozens of French citizens and dual Haitian-French nationals crowded the airport Saturday seeking to be evacuated after Tuesday's massive 7.0 earthquake, which leveled much of the capital Port-au-Prince. But at the last minute, a plane due to take them to the French island of Guadeloupe was prevented from landing, leaving them to sleep on the tarmac, waiting for a way out. "They're repatriating the Americans and not anyone else," said Charles Misteder, 50. "The American monopoly has to end. They are dominating us and not allowing us to return home." The crowd accused American forces, who were handed control of the airport by Haitian authorities, of monopolizing the airfield's single runway to evacuate their own citizens. The US embassy denied it was putting the evacuation of the approximately 40,000 to 45,000 American citizens in the country first. Others waiting for a way out were taken aback by the chaotic scenes confronted them when they arrived at the Toussaint L'Ouverture airport. "I haven't been able to tell my family that I'm alive. The coordination is a joke," said Wilfried Brevil, a 33-year-old housekeeper."

Network Flaw Causes Scary Web Error

Let's hope this is a fluke and not being used by hackers.

in reference to:

"A Georgia mother and her two daughters logged onto Facebook from mobile phones last weekend and wound up in a startling place: strangers' accounts with full access to troves of private information. The glitch — the result of a routing problem at the family's wireless carrier, AT&T — revealed a little known security flaw with far reaching implications for everyone on the Internet, not just Facebook users. In each case, the Internet lost track of who was who, putting the women into the wrong accounts. It doesn't appear the users could have done anything to stop it. The problem adds a dimension to researchers' warnings that there are many ways online information — from mundane data to dark secrets — can go awry. Several security experts said they had not heard of a case like this, in which the wrong person was shown a Web page whose user name and password had been entered by someone else. It's not clear whether such episodes are rare or simply not reported. But experts said such flaws could occur on e-mail services, for instance, and that something similar could happen on a PC, not just a phone. "The fact that it did happen is proof that it could potentially happen again and with something a lot more important than Facebook," said Nathan Hamiel, founder of the Hexagon Security Group, a research organization. Candace Sawyer, 26, says she immediately suspected something was wrong when she tried to visit her Facebook page Saturday morning."

Alibaba Slams Yahoo Over Google Stance

The computer internet giants would be showing the decency they should have shown a long time ago, if they pull out of China. Profit is not everything. Standing for moral principals comes first. I'll believe it when I see it, when it comes to Google and Yahoo.

in reference to:

"China's e-commerce giant Alibaba turned on major shareholder Yahoo Inc. on Saturday, calling the American company's support of Google in its standoff with China "reckless." Google has promised to stop censoring its search results in China, threatening to pull out of the country altogether if it can't operate an unfiltered search engine. Yahoo has said it was "aligned" with Google's position, though it's not clear what that means. "Alibaba Group has communicated to Yahoo! that Yahoo's statement that it is 'aligned' with the position Google took last week was reckless given the lack of facts in evidence," Alibaba spokesman John Spelich said Saturday. "Alibaba doesn't share this view." Yahoo closed its own offices in China several years ago when it sold much of its business there to the Alibaba Group. Yahoo retains a 39 percent stake in Alibaba that represents one of Yahoo's most valuable assets. Yahoo spokeswoman Nina Blackwell has declined to say whether the company would consider selling its holdings. Google hopes it can persuade the Chinese government to agree to changes that would enable its China-based Google.cn site to show uncensored search results."

Drop Food, Water, and Medical Supplies...Now!

There is too much talking and debating. People are dying. If you can't get life saving supplies to the people and aid workers because of the road problems then parachute them in. In addition, military forces should also parachute in to protect the supplies that are being dropped in and insure public safety. They can also set up areas where equipment and supplies can be dropped along with areas where helicopters can land. Time is running out. It's to sit around and debate the virtue of this or that response. It is time to act, not debate. Currently, most of the life saving supplies are sitting at the airports. It is maddening to see journalists doing more to rescue people than professionals.

in reference to:

"There should be 600,000 humanitarian daily rations - basic nutrition packages that provide 2,300 calories - at Haiti's airport by Saturday evening. That's according to Tim Callaghan, the Obama administration adviser who is helping to oversee relief efforts in Haiti. The World Food Program has a plan to distribute the rations. Callaghan says water purification units arrived Friday night and that officials hope they will produce up to 300,000 liters of water. More water is coming from the neighboring Dominican Republic. Dennis McDonough of the National Security Council said 180 tons of relief supplies has landed in Haiti. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. Water delivery Disruptions Imperil quake Survivors

There has to be troops or security with the water delivery trucks. Have troops accompany convoys of trucks delivering water and food. Although, Haitians have behaved with remarkable civility given the desperate situation.

in reference to:

"Hundreds of thousands of Haitians are in desperate need of drinking water because of an earthquake-damaged municipal pipeline and truck drivers either unable or unwilling to deliver their cargo. "Many drivers are afraid of being attacked if they go out, some drivers are still missing in the disaster and others are out there searching for missing relatives," said Dudu Jean, a 30-year-old driver who was attacked Friday when he drove into the capital's sprawling Cite Soleil slum. The lack of water has become one of the greatest dangers facing Haitians in part because earthquake survivors stay outdoors all day in the heat out of fear of aftershocks and unstable buildings. While aid has started to pour in from around the world, supplies are not quickly reaching all who need them. Even before Tuesday's quake, the municipal system in this city of 3 million people was unreliable. Haiti's poorest live in shacks with no plumbing and carry their water home in jugs from public wells. Most people depend on water delivered by truckers, who get their water with the help of diesel pumps that draw from a huge underground natural reservoir. "There's no shortage of water, the water's here, the trucks are here as you see," said Jean, who said his attackers let him go unharmed after they recognized him. Since the quake, at least one water treatment plant was shuttered because of a lack of electricity. Pipes for the municipal water system are believed damaged. No water is running in Cite Soleil, home to more than a million people. Adding to the problem is that stores that have water and food to sell are not opening out of fear of violence."

Red Cross trucks ‘huge’ medical convoy to Haiti

The Red Cross, with all their experience, know better than the U.S. government and UN, on how to deal with disasters. It just doesn't seem that enough is being done. There needs to be greater coordination and clear chain of command. This should be treated like a war. With time running out, that has to be greater efficiency in helping the people of Haiti.

in reference to:

"Up to 10 trucks carrying a "huge amount" of aid headed Saturday from the Dominican Republic to quake-struck Haiti, bringing a 50-bed field hospital, surgical teams and an emergency telecommunications unit, the Red Cross said. The convoy, including contingents from the Norwegian, Finnish, Spanish, Danish and Japanese Red Cross, hopes to arrive in Port-au-Prince in the afternoon, barring any problems, spokesman Paul Conneally said. The shipments were put on trucks for the overland trip because "it's not possible to fly anything into Port-au-Prince right now," he told The Associated Press by phone from the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo. "The airport is completely congested.""
